This establishment is a perfect example of a authentic Mexican restaurant is. NOT the expensive fancy ones where they over charge you for a mediocre enchilada . But one that makes you feel at invited in to a Mexican home where they feed you home cooked meals and serve you with hospitality !!also the food is AMAZING

Good breakfast burritos and lunch time tacos. The ladies that cook in the kitchen are always friendly and nice

Liquor store and Mexican food ? No way. The auntie that serves it up in the back is very welcoming. I feel like eating in someone's home. We enjoyed diced white meat chicken and beefy carne asada filled tacos. The beans, rice and cheese burrito also hit the spot.

Considering what we walked into, I'm going to give this a 5-star rating because the food was delicious, the location could not have been better, and the staff was super nice.
I'll start with the cons first, this is a legitimate liquor store, like if you want a plastic bottle of takka, this is the place to go. If you need some discount detergent because you're broke and ran out, this is your place to go.
The seating area was covered with plastic clear tablecloth to protect the tables, and they weren't the cleanest. The patrons were drinking tall cans and 40s in the dining area just chilling.
On the plus side though, you sit in the dining area facing the window that looks directly across the street at the pier. This makes it a great place to people-watch. There was a mom in the kitchen cooking, not some trained fry cook. And everyone was super helpful and friendly( the lady ringing us up even offered us a cheaper alternative to what we were ordering to save us some money, who does that?). I am really picky about meat, I don't like any freaky bits, like Gristle or hunks of fat in meat that I'm eating. My chicken taco had nothing but diced up chicken breast, same for the chicken quesadilla we ordered for the kids to share. My husband bought a beer and they charged us a dollar to be able to drink it in there, but it was still cheaper than going to any other restaurant and ordering a beer.
Next time I come to Monterey to walk the wharf area and Pier, we are absolutely going to come back to this location to get food. I'm pretty sure we've had a family of five for under $30 and that was including two beers. -

This place is a throw back.....like when a bar sold guns or a liquor store sold booze, dish soap, corn flakes and was a restaurant......Oh wait that's what this place is.
It's a combo........So the good....very friendly staff, helpful, looks like a grandmother cooking in the back, my buddy loved his taco's.
The not so good.....the eating area tables are covered with plastic and they are super dirty. Dried food stuck to the plastic. Looks like they have not been wiped off in days. The place is filthy dirty every where. There are convenience store goods stacked all over. Here's whats weird....you can buy a 6 pack walk over to a table and drink it like it was a bar. At one table two guys were banging down 40's and at another table a guy was on beer #4 of his 6 pack empty bottles lined up. Plastic flatwear, paper plates, nothing on the tables. One table had one bottle of hot sauce with no top and it was crusted with dried something. I ordered a burrito asked no cheese and no dairy, it came with sour cream inside. I didn't eat it. My buddy had taco's he liked them. Now the bathroom, well it is in the cooking area, no toilet paper, no paper towels, filthy filthy filthy, no soap and the hot water side had a plastic bag over it because it did not work. There was a sign on the door saying how all employee's had to wash their hands before returning to work....haha how would that happen?? A sign up in the bathroom saying....for an emergency number call 911 or call______ and some one wrote in "you can call F&^%k YOU.....it had been there for a while dried something was stuck over the writing. After going in the bathroom I am so glad I did not eat my burrito I may have needed 911. Sad because this could be a unique place but it is just far to dirty and gross.
